A Leader is Discovered
Jose, a produce worker in a grocery, liked his job but didn't necessarily feel like he was working up to his potential. His managers had no idea, and thought of Jose as a dependable employee, if unambitious. When given the opportunity, Jose enrolled in a series of Lanza's on-site English classes, as well as the Lanza Intercambio, where he demonstrated enthusiasm and aptitude. Jose was then chosen to receive Lanza's Leadership Training, where he received the skills and support to succeed in his newest role-the internal Hispanic trainer, where he trains, supports and mentors fellow employees.

Don't Get Burned
Initial consultations were under way in the kitchen of a restaurant. During a conversation, the Lanza interviewer noticed a burn mark on Juan's arm. When asked about it in Spanish, Juan shrugged and said that when he had dropped a bunch of food into the deep fryer, the hot oil had splashed up and burned him. "No," he said, he did not go to a doctor or report the incident to his manager. "It doesn't matter. I'm ok, and I won't do that again," he continued. "Didn't you learn the proper procedure when you were trained?", Lanza's interviewer asked. "No, there is no training in Spanish".

Lanza brought the situation to management's attention, who was very interested in protecting their employees and preventing future incidents and possible liabilities. Safety trainings were instituted, and the company's collateral materials, including the benefits package and safety procedures were translated into Spanish. Additionally, language classes were initiated for both Spanish-speaking staff and English-speaking managers.
